Vegan Meals and Passports

My childhood friend came to visit from Nashville (an Asian with a southern accent is trippy) and we crammed so much into the weekend that Jifo and I now both have sore throats. (It's related - you know when you get tired and your voice goes?)

We ate more vegan food than Jifo ever wanted, walked the length of Venice Beach, karaoked and clubbed into the wee hours of the night, and did crosswords like professionals.

I'm still waiting on photos. In the meantime, I'm planning a trip to the motherland (literally - my mother's birth land) in a month and I need to renew my passport (mailed it off today), book tickets (will probably cost us about a thousand dollars each), and call my baby cousin to tell her we need to stay in her apartment in Das Mutterland (my dad's idea not mine!)

I'm still trying to find some time to interview Angie and get that baby posted by this weekend.

Luckily, the pit bull we were supposed to foster captured her temporary foster's heart so he's holding on to her longer. Given our exhaustion, it's better this way.

Lastly, I'm all emotionally hung over from the partying we did while my friend was in town. It's like how I felt after Vegas last year; real life depressed the crap out of me. I wish I were in my early 20's again, partying every weekend and crawling into bed at sunrise, my body spry as a chickadee.

Happy Ozomatli Day

This week is nutso!

Thank you Volcano Iceland.

Due to a PR dude being trapped in England, Jifo's work woke him up on his birthday to tell him he was flying to NYC the next day.

After two straight days of press junkets, he finally came home - the same day we receive a guest from Nashville! My "little sis" from my childhood in NY is in town. Yes, she's a Chinese girl who, after five years in the south, has developed a hilarious twang to her vowels.

At the same time, we've been trying to work out the transport of an abused pit bull to my house for us to foster. It's been a cluster #*!@ but I'm not gonna sweat it.

Because today is officially Ozomatli Day in Los Angeles!

Who are they? These guys:

They're "hometown heroes," according to KCRW yesterday morning when they played live. Their positive vibes put me in a good mood and remind me not to get too tragic about snafus.

And unlike the usual pretentious bands that play live on KCRW and act like they're barely awake, Ozomatli actually shows some enthusiasm on air. Spread the love!

Happy Birthday Boyfriend

Let the record stand that Jifo actually did pick the bird carcass up from the carpet. (After shrieking like a pansy.)

Red Rum

When I let Terry in from the back yard today he was chewing something dark.

I pried open his mouth and caught a whiff of something unutterably foul. Though my blood sugar was low, I had enough sense not to reach my fingers in. Moments later he dropped a flattened chunk of flesh with black feathers onto our carpet.

Hours later, we let him out to pee, having blissfully forgotten. He returned quickly.

Simultaneously, Jifo and I smelled something. We blamed each other. He made me breathe on him. (We're close like that.) Not my breath, thank god.

Then I looked down at the carpet next to the couch.

Let's just say I had no idea a carcass smelled so bad.

For the record, Jifo's first reaction was to leap onto the couch, shrieking, "Get rid of it, I can't touch it, I can't touch it!"

He's been staring at Terry saying, "Look at the murder in his eyes. Red rum," all night.

Terry's First Day of School

Tonight I'm taking Terry to his first obedience class. He's generally a good dog, but he's young, and from the shelter, and sometimes a little s***. He can get overly excited around other dogs, so hopefully all will go well.

Jifo's actually coming tonight (he gets a day off after months of working 12+ hours a day) so I'll have his extra hands.

Me: You've finally decided to stop being an absentee father?
Jifo: Yeah. I'm going to take a more active part in our child's life.
Me: It's too late, he hates you.
Jifo: That's okay, I'll just hold him really tightly.

Terry also needs his nails trimmed. He just jumped on my lap and broke skin - through my PJs.

Bonus: what film is Jifo referencing?

Update: Jifo has actually NEVER SEEN GOOD WILL HUNTING. He claims it came from him.

All Night Wifey Waiting

In insomniac news...

I was sick for almost 2 weeks, during which time I discovered Supernatural (thanks a lot Twilight fanfiction Jensen-Ackles-as-Masen writers!) I had to find SOMEthing to keep me occupied as Jifo is in crunch time right now. These are the times he's been getting home since last week:

Thursday - 3 a.m.
Friday - 5 a.m.
Saturday - 5 a.m.
Sunday - early night! He actually came back around 10 p.m. so we could go out to dinner!
Monday - it's after midnight2 a.m. and I'm still home alone...

And like an insomniac who can't sleep until everyone is in the house sleeping good "wifey," I've been waiting up to each of these times (usually later).

So if any of you have ever wanted to work in the interactive entertainment industry, it's long nights and not so much glamor.

Soundtrack: Styx "Renegade" - the last song on the episode of Supernatural I just watched
(brownie points if you know which epi...)
